Hostess with the mostess...

I'm traveling to stay with my sister in New Jersey in a few weeks and got thinking about how many people are traveling to stay with friends and family this summer, share time at a beach house, or simply just having a home cooked meal together.  Either way, it leaves me thinking about hostess gifts and how boring (or non existent--no no!) they can be and how stressful they can sometimes be to pick out.  Sure for just an evening dinner it's easy to bring a bottle of wine, or loaf of fresh baked crusty bread--but what about the hostess that doesn't drink (they do exist...) or the one that always prepares too much food and bringing more would just be a burden.  Everyone wants to be the friend that brings the best gift, the best small token of appreciation for hospitality that goes above and beyond.  Here's a collection of things from catbird that are both interesting, mostly affordable, and sure to be a hit with whoever your hostess may be!

The campfire candle, that has just a touch of nostalgic summer and a fragrance sure to please anyone with working nostrils. ($32.00)

East Coast Wildflower Seed Bombs, for the casual gardener or friend with an inviting back entertaining space.($7.00)

For the friend or family member with an eclectic taste in home interior (or maybe a darker sense of humor).. these talon candlesticks are sure to be a conversation piece at a late night dinner party.($52.00)

For the friend who is sharing her beach house (or maybe is landlocked and misses the beaches),  Saipua Saltwater Soap would be a perfect way to say 'thanks' in a pretty little package. ($8.00)
What's your favorite hostess gift to give...or receive? I usually go for some kind of food or drink, but wouldn't think twice about bringing any of these things.  Tea towels always make great hostess gifts too--but just make sure you save those for friends with kitchens you have already seen!

Ps. I think I need to have that campfire candle...
